Selera Rimba and Pau Yik Mun - April 2012.

Last April we went to Restoran Selera Rimba at Sungai Besar, Selangor. What interesting about Selera Rimba is they serve 'rare' meats such as ayam hutan and hedgehog. They turn the raw meats to mouth watering rendang, curry and even spicy sambal.

As usual, the regimentals including Subki hit the road as early as 6 o'clock in the morning from Kedah. Ibu and I waited them at southbound of  Hentian Sebelah Simpang Pulai.

Around 9 o'clock in the morning, we began our journey to Restoran Selera Rimba. The traffic was good. We had Subki this time. He was good in speeding. So he pulled all regimentals to synchro with his speed.

We reached the restaurant quarter past 12 in the afternoon. All of us were starving upon parking our bikes. Luckily we had made our meals reservation 2 days before our journey.

Basically the meals that we had reserved were Rendang Landak, Masak Lemak Puyu, Asam Pedas Ikan Tapah, Ayam Hutan Goreng and some Ulam. The foods were so delicious until the taste has made Subki wrongly mentioned Tenggiling as part our meal several times. Naah, he isn't a boozer dude!

We quit filling our stomachs with all the rare meats around 2 o'clock in the afternoon.  Supposedly there should be no more eating session as per plan. Suddenly we thought of Pau Yik Mun in Tanjung Malim. Fortunately we just entered KL-Ipoh federal road. Without wasting our time, we made our way to the shop.

Eventhough we're already stuffed with all jungle-type menu at Sg. Besar just now, but we still allowed our bellies to be filled up once again with numbers of pau. Haha!

We're done at Pau Yik Mun half past 3 o'clock in the afternoon and made our way back to north. As always, eat-to-stuffed is the objectif principal for us.

Quench our thirst after several hours ride on sunny day.
Thank you Alexander Zulkarnain for this shot.

Steady Subki and trust me, no way our lauk contain tenggiling as you always accidentally said.

As usual, Jejai will begin our conversation with golden-and-you-can't-get-anywhere benefits buying his insurance products.

Doli Fried Kuey Teow

2 days ago Ibu and I went to Doli Restaurant in Taiping. For those who never noticed about this food place, Doli is one of evergreen icon for Taipingites like two of us. I’m sorry I didn’t know when they began running their fried kuey teow business but I began to like their fried kuey teow since they ran their food stall at old Taiping hawkers center nearby The Store supermarket (formerly known as Taiping Supermarket).

Map of Doli Restaurant and its coordinate.
Sorry, poor photo quality.

Now they are running their business at Jalan Tupai, just opposite Klinik Kesihatan Taiping. Taste of the fried kuey teow remains unchanged. I am not Anthony Bourdain nor Andrew Zimmern who can describe yumminess of food via face actions, but Doli fried kuey teow has its signature taste and I believe Taipingites agree with my statement as well.

The only thing now is their services. I mean time to prepare a plate of fried kuey teow took quite long. The owner of Doli Restaurant has to think how to speed up the service. With ¾-occupied tables, our fried kuey teow only reached in front of us 40-minutes after we placed order. That was not first time we faced that kind of problem. Eventhough now they are hiring Gurung workers, the problem still can’t be solved.
Special Fried Kuey Teow - RM 10. Trust me, it's worth.

Ibu still satisfied with replacement of Yutt San's fried bihun.

I really hope Doli Restaurant willing to do some drastic changes in order to improve overall quality of the restaurant. We love Doli fried kuey teow.

Congratulations to Ad Din

SK Jati Ipoh just held their kindergarten convocation day last Friday. Ad Din was one of the graduates . According to Ibu, all parents felt very satisfied with arrangement eventhough it was so basic for such inaugural events.

You're going to be enrolled for 6-years old kindergarten very soon Ad Din. Fasten your seat belt and stop flirting. Haha!
Front toothless Ad Din with his buddies

Son, why your mortar board hat so bend down unlike others?
Ad Din loves Ibu very much.

Ayah no comment-lah Ad Din..... (wink!)

Koh Samui, Thailand - Feb 2012.

The journey began from Taiping, Perak on 4th February 12. I let Yong and Ad Din stayed with my parents. We left Taiping half past 6 in the morning; just after Subuh prayer.
715km in one way

We arrived in BKH Checkpoint after 2 hours on saddle. There were hundreds of people crossing Malaysia – Thailand border that morning. I just remember that day was a public holiday for Malaysian. OMG. The moment was just a beginning as we had to face another checkpoint at Dannok.

The anticipation was right. Dannok Checkpoint was more severe than what we experienced an hour ago. I managed to buzz my fellow regimentals; Alexander, Mili, Tambun and Jejai and they were also suffering to get through Thai immigration and custom vehicle entry permit.
We only assembled in a group of 5 bikes around 11 in the morning (MY Time). The traffic was very good from Dannok but the climate was so hot and humid. So we stopped for thirst-quenching at one of Phattalung pump station.
Post hustling scene at Thai Immigration Checkpoint.
1st stop at Phattalung.
Ibu enjoyed seeing surrounding of Southern Thailand. We were crossing a long stretch whereby mixed Muslim-Buddhist kampongs on our left side and nice blue sea belongs to Gulf of Thailand on our right side.
We reached Donsak ferry pier half past 5 in the afternoon. Yes, we did stop several places to rehydrate and we still not had our lunch yet. Luckily Ibu and I had our noodles-in-cup at our stoppage pump station.
Lunch time dude.

Indeed we're exhausted.

Exclusive smile awarded by Jejai to all his insurance clients.

The brass ball Alexander Zulkarnain - a guy married more than 4 bikes.
After reaching Koh Samui, we split out into 2 groups. Actually my fellow regimentals joined this trip organized by a big bike shop situated in Juru, Penang. So Ibu and I just tagged them along their  way  but FORTUNATELY they were left behind by the organizer group since we made our move from Dannok. Haha! The regimentals went to their crib situated somewhere at Chaweng Beach while Ibu and I went to our pre-journey reservation crib; Thongtakian Resort (http://thongtakian.com/2011/thongtakian/) at Lamai Beach (if I am not mistaken).
An affordable resort for us.

Our crib, very close to beach.

Clean Lamai Beach in Koh Samui.

We spent 2 nights in Koh Samui. We enjoyed good foods at Muslim Restaurant near Koh Samui mosque, shopped at Tesco Lotus, went to Hin Ta Hin Yai Rocks and also bargained few goodies at night market. Without any symptom, Ibu suffered high fever on the 2nd night. Alhamdulillah, with bless from Him, Ibu recovered quickly next morning – a day for us to depart.

West Coast to East Coast of Peninsular this coming November.

While I was whatsapp-ing with my fellow bikers; Mili and Jejai few days ago, an idea of riding was suddenly blinked out from Mili’s diabetic-brain. A ride encompasses East and West Coast of Peninsular Malaysia within 2 days period.
"Owh where are they...?"

The bike regiment is best to be described as high-travelling frequency bikers. Eventhough they are not old-timers in big bike riding, they love ride in group or pack or bunch (... or herd) and they keep their spirit of riding until some of them come to work with their mean-machines everyday. I began to be part of the regiment since Koh Samui trip last February.
The Regiment. L-R: Mili, Alexander Zulkarnain, Tambun @ Mamola and JJ @ Jejai.
The man with unusual diabetic brain. He is el-brillante!
Again we will assemble this November.

Summary of Mili’s idea can be described as follows:
  • Date: 24 ~ 25 November 2012 (Saturday and Sunday).
  • Route: Gurun à Spg. Pulai à Cameron Highland à Gua Musang à Kota Bharu à Jeli à Gerik à Gurun.
  • Participants: Only the regimental.

Route for Ibu and I - 765km.
Route for Mili, Jejai, Tambun and Zayd - 1,185km.

InsyaAllah, Ibu will join this riding-trip, and as usual 4 of my fellow bikers will be starting from Gurun / Sg. Petani while Ibu and I will wait them at Hentian Sebelah Simpang Pulai.
Hentian Sebelah Simpang Pulai Southbound. Jejai was with his old machine.
Since we agree to stay a night in Kota Bharu, perhaps I (no... it’s Ibu to be specific) can taste tenderness of grilled kerapu at Raja Ikan Bakar (http://rajaikanbakar.blogspot.com/) once again.

I will furnish detail story about the trip after safely return home soon. Ya Allah, please safeguard again our ride this time.
